Manchester United were unable to advance to the next round of the FA Cup after losing via penalties to Fulham at Old Trafford. So, what were the key talking points from the game? Read on to find out.
Manchester United would be worse off without Bruno Fernandes
The team are only where they are now because of the brilliance of captain Bruno Fernandes. It's no mistake that the Portuguese play-maker won the Player of the Month of February. The team is only where they are now because of Bruno Fernandes' input.
Things would have been worse if the team had lost the former Sporting Lisbon player to injury. With Manchester United's player missing games to injuries, Ruben Amorim will be praying and hoping his captain doesn't join the list of injured players. Because of he does, Manchester United could as well forget about turning up for any match because it will end in disgrace.
Chido Obi not yet ripe to play topflight football
The 17-year-old striker was brought in to replace the ineffective Rasmus Hojlund in the 68th minute but his display on the night showed he still has a lot to do to develop into a world-class finisher. Though the young striker showed that he knows how to position himself for goalscoring opportunities (something that Hojlund is lacking), it's his finishing that let him down against Fulham. Obi needs to work really hard on his finishing if he desires to make it as a topflight footballer.
Amorim not to blame as Manchester United's player are bereft of talent
Many have started asking for the sack of the Portuguese tactician but in truth, he is not to blame for the team's horrible showing so far this season. The claim from some section of Manchester United supporters is that the system being deployed by the coach is responsible for the team's poor showing. But what this section of fans fails to realize is that this system has worked for the Portuguese tactician at his previous clubs especially at Sporting Lisbon where he achieved so much success deploying this system. The problem is that these players are not suited for the system he is using so far as they are so bereft of talent.
The manager stated before he took charge of the team that they will suffer and true to his words, the team is suffering so far. There is no need for the coach to change his system to suit the players because that was what Erik Ten Hag did and it eventually led to his sack. Amorim must remain steadfast to his style and axe any player in the summer who is not suited to the style of play. The board also have to back him properly in the summer so he can get in the players suited for this style which has brought him success at his previous clubs.
