Analysis from Chelsea's 2-1 defeat at Wolves

By Godwin Odiko

This defeat to Wolves means Chelsea have now suffered three consecutive defeats on the road in the Premier League. In a game that was full of end-to-end actions, what are the major takeaway? Read on to find out.

Sterling was profligate in front of goal

The England winger was very poor in front of goal. A major one was when he had the ball in front of Wolves' goal and just needed to pass to Palmer who was free to tap in but he decided to go for goal and missed. He needs to work on his finishing in training if he wish to regain the type of form he had in his Manchester City days. The 29-year-old forward is also a forgotten man in the England squad under Gareth Southgate these days so he needs to work his way back into the England squad with some decent performances for the Blues.

Mario Lemina was a force in Wolves'midfield

The 30-year-old Gabonese was exceptional for Wolves in midfield and got a goal to crown his efforts. Lemina was virtually everywhere on the pitch helping his side and will be happy his efforts were not in vain as his side secured all three points.

Chelsea will need to get a top quality striker as Broja and Jackson continue to disappoint

Chelsea just can't afford another season with Broja and Jackson leading the line for them. Both of them started the game but failed to impress with Jackson failing to control the ball in vital position many times in the game.

January might not be feasible for the Blues to get in a top quality striker but they urgently need to get in a poacher in the summer if they are to return to the summit of English football
