Five Key Points From Manutd Win Over West Ham

By Odiko Godwin

Lindelof Might Need To Wait Some More

When the team sheet was released, the Swede wasn't even named in the Match Day squad - causing many to suspect his average display during pre-season might have triggered Mourinho's decision in leaving the 23-year-old out of the game entirely.

But as the game may have shown: Bailly and Jones were fantastic together - and justified the manager's decision to leave out Lindelof. And if they continue in this form, it would be hard to see the former Benfica defender - displacing any of those two soon.

Mourinho and Mata Bromance Continues

When it became obvious Mourinho would become United's manager, many began to see Mata's immediate future outside of Old Trafford. And their reason wasn't far fetched - given what transpired between the duo at Chelsea. But the Portuguese surprised many - making Mata an integral member of his team - last season.

And against West Ham, United's first league match of the season, Mourinho again throwed the Spaniard into his starting lineup - having seen him recovered just recently from an injury sustained during pre-season. Mata returned the favour and gave his manager an impressive display.

Lukaku and Matic: Just What United Needed

It was frustrating to watch United draw and lose games they easily could have won - by a reasonable margin; last season, all thanks to them not being clinical in front of goal; and sometimes lacking the required intensity(as shown against West Ham). But all that now look to be a thing of the past - with the arrival of Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic. The former looking to add another dimension to the way United execute set pieces - as he showed with his second goal. Matic on his side, has been nothing but a tremendous improvement on United's midfield thus far.

Martial Doesn't Need To Start To Prove His Quality

Social media experienced - meltdown - when Mourinho made public his intention to start Rashford ahead of Martial at United's left flank. With many castigating the former Chelsea boss for keeping a quality in the form of Martial on the bench. Though Rashford had a nice game, it wasn't until Martial was introduced for the Englishman - that United really put the game beyond the Hammers: scoring one and assisting another. Even his dazzling runs didn't go unnoticed.

West Ham Can't Be Written Off Just Yet: They Have Got Qualities

Javier Hernandez, Marko Arnautovic and Pablo Zabaleta all made their debut for the Hammers, but it wasn't a happy one - as they were completely overwhelmed by United's class. It was a day Manchester United proved to be really classy and would have been a completely different story had United refused to turn up - given the many qualities in the West Ham side.

Aside the aforementioned stars, West Ham still got other players like Andre Ayew, Manuel Lanzini and others - that can really wreck any team on their day. Of course, the new signings will need time to blend and, once they do, you will be underestimating West Ham at your own peril.
