Manchester United had to rely on a 93rd minutes magic from Rooney and Rashford to ensure Mourinho and his wards keep tabs with Chelsea at the top of the log. Here are the five key points I deduced from the nervy match for Manutd.
BAILLY AND BLIND PARTNERSHIP IMPRESSED AGAIN
The duo have enjoyed a beautiful partnership at the heart of Manutd defense so far, Recording two league clean sheets in the process. Eric Bailly for the third time this season was voted man of the match after another scintillating performance, but it is the understanding between the two that helped halt Hull City's counter attacking style and frustrated the tiger's attackers up front- especially Abel Hernandez who had to be withdrawn.
MOURINHO HAS BROUGHT BACK THE FIGHTING SPIRIT
Manutd lost this sense of urgency and urge to win under Moyes and Louise Van Gaal, But Jose Mourinho has returned the "never say die" attitude to the Manutd players. Frustrated by the resolute defending of Hull, United kept on pushing until the 93rd minutes breakthrough from Rashford. A character they lost since the time of Sir Alex, but has now been restored under Jose Mourinho.
MARTIAL HASN'T YET FOUND HIS RHYTHM
The french man has been struggling to get back to his last season form under Jose Mourinho and was unimpressive against the tigers. Martial was a torn in the flesh of opposition defenders last season- with his speed, dribbles and amazing runs. But the former Monaco forward has not shown much of that this season and had to be withdrawn in the second half. If he doesn't step up, he might loose his starting place to the "wonder kid" Rashford who can also play on both flanks or Memphis Depay who is waiting to show the boss why he so much trusted him to keep him.
RASHFORD AND MKHITARYAN SHOULD BE STARTING
The duo were brought on in the second half for Mata and Martial respectively, and it was their introduction that altered the cause of the game. Rashford is a forward who can play on both flanks as well as the striking position as we saw in his movement in the box to tap in Rooney's well laid pass. While Mkhitaryan is an attacker who has got speed, strength, skill, dribbles and vision to cause troubles to opposition defense as he showed against Hull City when he was brought on. With Martial not impressing yet and Mata still not the Jose Mourinho kind of player, the duo are not far from being starters for Manutd.
ROONEY IS CLASS BUT NOT IN FORM
The Manutd captain moment of class was all the Red devils needed to triumph over the tigers. Hasn't yet impressed many United fans this season, but many were pleased with the manner in which he provided the delightful assist for Rashford to graciously net the winner. His showing against Hull City reiterated the fact that form is temporal, but class is permanent.
