Eric Chelle got his first game to a winning start with a comfortable 2-0 win in Rwanda. So what were the talking points from the game?
It's the Victor Osimhen show
The striker almost caused a scare when he fell to the ground holding his shoulder in the first minute of the game. I wouldn't have known where our goals would come from without Victor Osimhen on the pitch. He showed striker's instinct to finish from a good cross from Ademola Lookman to put the Super Eagles ahead. He then showcased pace and intelligence to double Nigeria's lead. Nigeria really didn't troubled the Rwandan defense aside those two goals. So it was a total Victor Osimhen show. Nigerians will be hoping the prolific striker continues his goalscoring form when Zimbabwe visit on Tuesday.
Eric Chelle's changes improved Nigeria's performance
The second half substitutions made by coach Eric Chelle helped Nigeria dominate the game - with Nigeria gaining more of the ball possession. Raphael Onyedika came in for the unimpressive Samuel Chukwueze, then Bruno Onyemaechi replaced the ineffective Ola Aina at left back. The Malian tactician then reverted to a 4-2-3-1 formation which gave the team balance and composure. I expect Raphael Onyedika who is impressive for Club Brugge this season to start against Zimbabwe on Tuesday.
Tolu Arokodare didn't give a good impression with his display
I know the KRC Genk forward only came in the 77th minute, but his performance didn't show that he can be the best deputy for Osimhen. He looked sluggish on the ball and wasn't able to progress a fast counter attacking situation when he had the chance to. It's his first game for the Super Eagles though, but first impression really matters because he might not get this opportunity in the next game.
Comment your talking points from the game let's see them if yours are different from mine.
This current super Eagles team has no bite... Without Osimhen and Lookman who obviously didn't have a decent game.... That team can't win a lackluster man United team.... So many inaccurate passes... The host team had more coordination but without a VICTOR OSIMHEN.... THRY SHOULD SPEND THE NEXT DAY PRACTICING FORWARD PASSES atleast...
ReplyDeleteNice one.
DeleteI agree with you, they played too many backward passes and were always quick to lose possession. But like I highlighted in the article, the second half subs from the coach helped us gain more possession and improved our passing. But in Alli agree with you, they need to work more on their passing and possessional play in training.
