Godwin Odiko: How discovering best XI will bring success to Ruben Amorim

Welcome to my weekly column on notable happenings in the world of football across the globe.

How discovering best XI will bring success to Ruben Amorim

For those who have followed my comments on social media in Amorim's early days as Manutd's boss, they will remember that I have always hammered that the Portuguese tactician needs to figure out his best XI quickly to start achieving success.

Many have mentioned that Amorim is used to rotating his team even when he was at Sporting Lisbon. But, he's not in the same terrain as he was in Portugal. I am not trying to belittle or degrade the Portuguese league, but you simply can't compare the level of quality with the Premier League or English football.

Prior to Sunday's FA Cup triumph at Arsenal, Amorim mostly makes wholesale changes to his starting XI for games. But against Arsenal, he made just two changes to the team that drew 2-2 at Liverpool in previous game. This goes to show that Amorim has figured out his best XI. Consistency in performance most times in football comes with consistent selections; and I can ascertain and promise that if Amorim can stick to his best XI in Manutd's next match against Southampton in the Premier League, they will blow the Saints away at Old Trafford.

Hansi Flick the Real Madrid nemesis

Hansi Flick has managed his team twice to thrashing Real Madrid. The first time the German tactician managed Barcelona to a win against their bitter rivals was in the La Liga at Madrid. It was a humiliating 4-0 win to leave the Madrid fans speechless. Fast forward to another new year in the same season and Flick has led his side to another resounding 5-2 win over Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid.

Flick has now established himself as Real Madrid's nemesis with Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Lewandowski scoring in those two matches. It remains to be seen if Hansi Flick can snatch the title from Real Madrid this season with Atletico Madrid pushing hard for the title also this season.

Eric Chelle needs to bring instant success to the Super Eagles

The NFF last week announced Eric Chelle as the new Super Eagles coach but on a short term contract that will last until after the completion of the World Cup qualifiers. How ever, with the Super Eagles stuck on a very precarious position in their World Cup qualifiers group, the Malian gaffer has to turn things around and do it quick to stand a chance of getting a renewal of his short term contract.

Eric Chelle is used to playing a 4-4-2 diamond formation and it will be interesting to see if he will use the same formation with the Super Eagles. Whilst, Chelle is not the kind of manager many Super Eagles fans would have wanted, his experience coaching Mali should come in handy for him as Super Eagles coach. And lest we all forget, it's Eric Chelle's Malian team that defeated Finidi George's led Super Eagles team in a friendly last year. So, the Malian tactician really has got something upstairs to lead the Super Eagles to success. As a fan of the Super Eagles, I wish him the best of luck.
