THE NAIJA PUNDITS LIVE
Welcome to today’s section of your favorite Nigerian football interview show. In today’s section, I am privilege to have Enyimba FC and Nigerian U23 striker Peter Onyekachi.  He also answered questions thrown in from followers on our Globacom premier league group on facebook. And just to inform you all, our guest is currently in camp with the dream team in Abuja preparing for the African tournament later on in Congo.
Nice having you on today’s program peter:
PETER : you are welcome.
First of all, I would like to congratulate you on your win against Pillars on Wednesday, how was the match like?
PETER; it was a tough match, but we played to instructions and won.
Kano pillars coach, Baba Ganaru was saying during his post match conference that the pitch was not good enough for his boys to play. What is your take on this issue?
PETER : Well, he said his mind but I want to say that both of us played on the same pitch, and we have not trained on that pitch also for the past 3 weeks going into the match, because of the rain which made it impossible ti train on. So we are just a better team it wasn’t because of the pitch issue.
When you are been picked to start a match. What runs through your mind just before kick off?
PETER : I am always very happy to be among the starters, and all that runs through my mind is to score for my team to win.
Ok, you moved from a rival club to another in Abia Warriors to Enyimba, what is it like to have played for two top rival clubs in Nigeria?
PETER : it’s a privilege to have played for both teams, last season it was a tough game when both teams met. So this season I know is going to be even tougher considering the fact that am now playing for the bigger part of the rivals.
Ok interesting. You are a striker and every good striker always set a goal target for the season. What’s your goal target for this season peter?
PETER : Before the start of the season, I had a target of 25 goals, but now is so difficult to meet that target because I haven’t been that available for my team due to commitments from the national team.
Ok that’s true. Now looking into the national team, have you ever been invited to the super eagles?
PETER : NO.
Alright. How many goals have you scored for the dream team since you started featuring for the team. Can you recall?
PETER : I can’t recall, but I know I have scored two international goals against Tunisia and Gabon respectively.
Ok good one. Now let’s focus on the tournament to be staged in Congo. How has preparations in camp been like?
PETER : The spirit is high here in camp, all the coaches and the players have been working hard because they know what Nigerians expect of them. So we are working very hard on our weaknesses to in other to make sure we make Nigerians proud.
Ok. Do you have any personal ambitions going into this tourney?
PETER : Yes sure, I want to be the highest goal scorer in the tourney and also notch the best player’s award but above all get the trophy for my country.
Nice expectations peter. Now time to go into personal details about you to know more about you. Who is your favorite Nigerian league player apart from yourself? LOL
PETER : Its Kingsley Sokari.
Ok good to know. What about your favorite foreign player?
PETER : is it my favorite Nigerian foreign based player?
Yes Peter.
PETER : Ikechukwu Uche
Alright, which footballer either Nigerian or foreign is your football idol?
PETER: Sergio Aguero.
Ok Peter, your favorite football team abroad?
PETER ; Chelsea.
Oh my rival. LOL
PETER :LOL Yes.
Ok Peter time to answer questions sent in from your fans and followers of this shows.
PETER ; OK
Djdica wants to know how old you are and why Nigerian players often lie about their age?
PETER: Am 20 years old now. And players lie because we don’t start our career at an early stage on like the whites people. We start after secondary school, while the white start as early as when they are still in the kindergarten.
Oladeji Gabriel is asking “what has been your most difficult challenge?”
PETER : I will say playing for the National team. Because its hard to get into the first team here.
Kelechi Diribe wants to know how you made it to lime light, overcoming fraudsters that pose to be managers and agents?
PETER: It has been difficult for me as a player but I know what I want, am not in a haste to play abroad so that’s why I haven’t been their prey.
Adeyemi Abiodun is asking to know your advice for young players who are only focused on playing abroad and secondly, why do clubs in Nigeria often delay payment of salary to players and he wants to know your advice also on what the LMC should do to curb this in our football?
PETER: I will say that is not everybody that will play abroad as a footballer, so you need to relax first and start here before thinking about moving outside the country. On the salary issue, it’s a very big problem. Because it’s no longer with sign on fees on like before, so its difficult because some Clubs receive small money in their states, but thank God for LMC, because they are putting in their best to solve this issue.
Lastly peter, Cosmas Mikel wants to know your best moment in your football career and why you don’t come home to anambra state especially your home in Ukpor Nneewi south LGA?
PETER: Laughs! Am not from Anambra state am from Abia. My best moment in my career was when I got called up to the National team(Dream team).
Ok peter, thanks a lot for your time. Any last word for your fans?
PETER: you are welcome Goddy. I want to say a big thank you to all of them out there that has been there for me, God bless them for everything.
Have a nice day man.
PETER : you too Goddy.
